Upland is a small village in Fillmore County, located in south central Nebraska. The village was founded in 1869 as a stop on the Union Pacific Railroad and was incorporated in 1983. The population was 123 at the 2020 census, making it one of the smallest incorporated towns in the state.
Upland is known for its Imperial palace, the only palace in Nebraska and the former home of the Raymond C. and Bessie K. Howe family. The building was built in 1925 and has since been converted into a museum.
The village also features two churches: the First Congregational Church, founded in 1877, and the Grace United Methodist Church, founded in 1885.
Upland is also home to the Prairie Smoke Orchard, a variety of apple trees planted in 1929.
Each June, the village celebrates its heritage with "Upland Days," a festival that includes a parade, an antique car show, a carnival, and more.
