Union City is a village situated in U.S. state of Nebraska and situated in Madison District, and is located around 18 miles north of Norfolk and 20 miles south of Battle Creek. The population of the city is 367 as indicated by the 2010 census.
Union City was initially settled in the 1870s. It was based on farmland and three railroad lines coming into the region. The first line was built by the Chicago and North Western Railway, and was roughly 17 miles long. It associated Union City with Milwaukee. Not long after that, the Chicago and Northwestern Railway created a second line, which associated Norfolk and Battle Creek. The third line was the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul which kept running from Sioux City, Iowa, right down to Butte.
In the 1920s and 30s, the little town started to see development, which proceeded into the 1960s. At that time, Union City had an enlistment of 414.The rural area of Union City is essentially engaged in farming, and the town has a post office, two service stations, two garages, a general store, a bar, and a volunteer fire station.
