Knightstown is an unincorporated community located in northeast Dixon County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 22 people at the 2000 census.
The area was named after Edward B. Knight, the first settler in the area, who moved to the area in 1880. Knightstown was the first post office to be established in Dixon County, in 1882, and the site of a school built in 1883. The post office closed in 1990.
The settlement was an important trading point for area settlers and travelers until the 20th century. Over the course of time, three churches, a general store, a blacksmith shop, multiple grain elevators, and a stockyard were all built in Knightstown.
In the late 1970s, a school consolidation movement started in Nebraska, and many of the small, one-room schools in the area were merged together to form the Cedar Bluffs Public School District. While the Cedar Bluffs School buses often passed through Knightstown, the settlement remained detached from the district until its closure in the early 2000s.
Today, the area boasts a post office, Nebraska Consolidated Mill and Grain, and several homes. Knightstown is the site of two annual events, the Kenny Naze Memorial Car and Bicycle Show and the local Church Picnic. The nearest schools are now in the Allen Consolidated Public School District, located seven miles southeast of the town.
