West Lafayette is a rural village located in Saunders County, Nebraska. It is located 60 miles southwest of Omaha, and 8 miles east of Wahoo. It has a population of 316 as of the 2010 census.
West Lafayette was founded in 1880 by Jesse and Mary Monaghan, who had come to the area two years earlier from Wisconsin. The town was named after the Monagans’ hometown of West Lafayette, Indiana.
