Lebanon is a small city located in Colfax County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha–Council Bluffs metropolitan statistical area.
The settlement that is now Lebanon was first established in July of 1873, when the Peake family staked claim to land in the area. Joined by the Henderson and Moser families, they founded the settlement named after the earlier established Lebanon Post Office which had been in service since 1866. Through the years, the town has been home to various churches, schools, banks, and general stores. Today, Lebanon is home to a thriving agricultural and commercial community, and its economy is driven mainly by the nearby Carter Lake Airstrip, which has been continuously operated since the 1940s.
Lebanon is governed by a mayor-city council form of government. The current mayor, Richard Hergert, was appointed in 2009. The Lebanon City Council meets on the second Thursday of each month, while the Planning Commission meets on the fourth Thursday. The city is home to a number of organizations such as the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce, the Lebanon Boosters, and the Friends of Lebanon.
