New Whiteland is an unincorporated community in Hooker County, Nebraska. It is located between Oshkosh and Thedford, just off Highway 2. The area was first patented in 1909 by Thomas Tilton, who saw the potential for a town in the area due to its numerous grassland and homestead potential. He later sold the patent to Frank T Whiteland, who planned and developed the community.
In 1912, the first church was built and people started arriving in the area, including a post office which was opened in the same year. The first business in the community was a saloon which was built in 1915. In 1949, the New Whiteland school was built and is still in use today.
New Whiteland is an agricultural community based on ranching and farming. The population consists mostly of small family farms, cattle ranchers, in addition to some business and services.
