Petersburg (formerly German Prussia) is a village in Boone County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area.
Petersburg was established in 1869. Its original settlers were of German and Czech origin, hence its former name of German Prussia. One of the first pioneers was Charles Cofer, who developed a flour mill, a brickyard and a foundry near the town. The village was officially called German Prussia until 1891 when its name was changed to Petersburg.
Petersburg serves as the county seat of Boone County, and is home to the Boone County Courthouse, built in 1901. The courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is currently used as the village hall.
The town's economy is based on agriculture and tourism.
