La Porte, Nebraska is a town in Nance County. It is located approximately halfway between Grand Island and Norfolk, and was founded in 1872, after the railroad was established in 1872. The town was originally named Belmont, after the hometown of one of the founders, but the name was changed in 1881 to La Porte.
