Fishers, Nebraska is a village located in northern Merrick County, Nebraska, United States. According to the 2017 United States Census, Fishers' population was 89. Fishers is located along the Platte River, 11 miles (18 km) north of Central City, the county seat of Merrick County. Fishers was established in 1889 when the Omaha and Republican Valley Railroad, a subsidiary of the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad, began to develop the area. The population of Fishers was listed as 74 at the 2010 Census. The town was incorporated in 1890. Fishers originally served as a farming community that processed wheat, oats, and corn. In the early 1900s, Fishers had several small businesses, such as a creamery, a blacksmith’s shop, and a general store. In the mid-1900s, the railroad became less important to the local economy, and the population slowly declined over the years. Today, Fishers is a small community with a quaint atmosphere. The local economy is largely agricultural; farmers grow crops such as corn, milo, and soybeans. The village has a grocery store, church, and post office, as well as a few other small businesses. The annual Fishers Corn Festival is held each year in the summer.
