South Bend is a village in Platte County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 431 at the 2010 census. South Bend is located along the eastern border of the state, along the border with Iowa.
South Bend was first platted in 1872 along the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Its economy was based upon the production of brick and tile. Most of the town's citizens worked in the brickyards that were located along the eastern edge of the village. The production of tile began in 1925, and it has been one of the major sources of employment ever since.
The town is home to the South Bend School District, which covers an area of 250 square miles and serves nearly 400 students. The district operates one elementary school, a middle school, and a high school. The village of South Bend also has its own park which is located on its west side. It features several picnic areas, a skate park, a basketball court, a playground, a baseball diamond, and two regulation tennis courts.
