Scottsburg is a village in Saline County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 96 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lincoln, Nebraska Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The area around Scottsburg has been the site of habitation for over 10,000 years due to its optimal location near the Little Blue River and numerous salt springs. Throughout its history, the area had been occupied by the Pawnee, Omaha, and Otoe tribes.
In 1857, the town was plotted by Samuel Scott, who had lived in the area since at least 1856. Other settlers followed, and in 1860 the village had a population of 40. The post office was established in 1860, and Scottsburg was incorporated as a village in 1885.
In addition to providing salt, the Little Blue River provided transportation and fish for the settlers. Today, most of the village's economy is agricultural-related, with corn, soybeans, and cattle accounting for the bulk of production. There is also a large-scale ethanol plant outside of the city limits.
The primary school in Scottsburg is the Scottsburg School, a public K-12 institution. In addition to education, the school is also the center of the village’s social and athletic life, with football, volleyball, basketball, and track & field programs.
