The name of a symbolic group of historical christian figures that appear on cathedrals and other imagery around Europe

You might be thinking of the Nine worthies, nine kings which personified the chivalric virtues. They were:

  1. Hector
  2. Alexander the Great
  3. Julius Caesar
  4. Joshua
  5. David
  6. Judas Maccabeus
  7. King Arthur
  8. Charlemagne
  9. Godfrey of Bouillon

Note that in the group there were three pagans, three Jews and three Christians.

However, the Nine worthies were not explicitly used in church imagery, AFAIK, but can be found on civic buildings like the City Hall in Cologne.
