Alliance, Nebraska is a city located in northwest Nebraska on the Niobrara River. The city was founded in 1889 and was first known as Grand Lake. The city was renamed to Alliance in 1891 after the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy railroad arrived. During the Black Hills Gold Rush, Alliance provided the main railroad access to the area.
In 1902, Alliance became the seat of Box Butte County. The city has since grown to a population of 8,789 as of the 2018 United States Census.
