The city of Rainbow City was known – in tandem with neighboring town Southside – as “Kirbyville” until the first railroad depot was built in 1907. The city also has its own independent volunteer fire department, which is responsible for responding to fires in both Rainbow City and Southside. There is also a town hall located in the center of the city.
