Oxford, Alabama is a city located in central Calhoun County, in the East-Central region of the state. It is approximately 100 miles northeast of Birmingham and 60 miles west of Anniston. Oxford was originally formed in 1870, after the completion of the railroad line through the area connecting Columbus, Georgia and Birmingham. The community quickly grew to become a prominent settlement and quickly established itself as a center of commerce for the county.
