Oneonta is a city located in Blount County, Alabama. It is situated at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains about 50 miles north of Birmingham.

The city was founded in 1821 by James Cane, a settler from Virginia, and was named after Oneonta, New York. It was incorporated as a city in 1889 and soon afterwards became a major railroad hub, connecting several nearby towns and cities. By the early 1900s, the population of Oneonta had grown to over 2,000 people.
