The first settlers arrived in the area in the mid-19th century, and a church and school was soon built at the crossroads. By the early 20th century, the community had a general store, saloon, post office, two doctors, and several houses. The community was devastated by a tornado in 1927, but was quickly rebuilt afterwards.

In the 21st century, Meadowbrook remains largely rural in nature, with a mixture of single family homes and small farms.
