Jaisalmer Fort – This fortress is situated, in Jaisalmer, which comes in Rajasthan province of India. Jaisalmer Fort is a World Heritage Site. It was constructed by, Rawal Jaisal in 1156 AD, hence the name of the fort was also named after him.

  1. Jaisalmer Fort stands on the Trikuta Mountains of Thar Desert, and there have been many historical battles. In the fort, there is a huge yellow sandstone wall. During the daytime, the fortress of this fort looks like light golden color.For this reason, this fort is also known as Sonar Kila or Golden Fort. This fort is built, in the heart of the city and as historical heritage of Jaisalmer, people come to see this fort.
  2. In 2013, Jaisalmer Fort was included, in the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 37th World Heritage Committee held in Phnom Penh, Colombia. You will be surprised to know that this fort is in the first place in the ancient fortifications of the world which, was fully preserved.
  3. There is a basement built in this fort which is 15 feet long.
  4. Jaisalmer Fort was built in 1156 CE by Rawal Jaisal. Another major incident of the fort fell in 1276 when the King of the Jatsi invaded the fort.
  5. This fort is surrounded by, a 30-foot-high wall. Currently, it is a residential place for a quarter of the city’s population. There are several wells in the fort complex, which are the regular source of water for the residents here. The fort shows the ideal fusion of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles.
    Like other forts in Rajasthan, this fort also has many doors like Akhai Pol, Air Poll, Suraj Pol, and Ganesh Pol.

  14. The second attack The Mughal emperor Humayun attacked this fort in 1541. After this, in order to improve relations with the Mughals, Rawal married his daughter in 1570 with Akbar.The Mughals occupied the fort till 1762. After this Maharaja Mulraj took control of the fort. After this, there was a treaty between the king  Mulraj and the British and his occupation remained on the fort.
  15. After the death of Mulraj in 1820, the rule came here under the hands of Gaj Singh( grandson of Mulraj).
  16. After independence, and the partition of India, the ancient trade system was completely closed. But during the Indo-Pak war in 1965 and 1971, Jaisalmer Fort had proved its greatness.
  17. Seven Jain Temples :There are seven Jain temples built on this fort. The construction of these temples is believed to be in the middle of 15th to 16th century. In 2013, this fort was declared a World Heritage Fort by UNESCO.
  18. Jauhar :The history of the fort of Jaisalmer starts from the 12th century, it was built by the Rawal kings, mainly by the Rawal Jaisal.Jauhar was first done in Jaisalmer fort when in the 13th century Alauddin attacked this fort and tried to snatch it,At that time, Jauhar was done by 24,000 Rajput women, it was the biggest and the first Jauhar which will always be associated with the history of this fort.
