Center Point is a city located in southeastern Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. It is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area and was incorporated in 1997. According to the 2010 Census, the city’s population was 16,921.
The community that is now Center Point was first settled in the early 1880s, and it was later known as Littleton. By the late 1880s, the community had several businesses, including a sawmill and a cotton gin. In the early 1900s, the town was renamed Center Point and became a hub for industrial development. The main industry was the center of Brierfield Ironworks.
In the late 40s, Center Point experienced rapid growth as a suburb of Birmingham. This was due to the completion of Interstate 59 and the resulting population and economic boom. Center Point continues to grow as a safe and vibrant suburban community.
The city was largely devastated during the April 27, 2011 tornadoes, but it has since recovered and is actively involved in programs to rebuild the community.
