The original design was drawn up by engineer Carlos Quesada and completed under the direction of Italian builders.

The main altarpiece of the church, which is dedicated to the Virgin of Mount Carmel, was created in 1930 by artist Emilia Yost. The interior of the church includes several stained glass windows which were donated by local families in memory of their loved ones. In 2019, a series of renovations were carried out in the church as part of a restoration project, including the replacement of the lighting and the introduction of new furniture.
