Boaz, Alabama is a city located in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 9,551 at the 2010 census. The city is centrally located in the county and is approximately one half hour north of Birmingham and one half hour south of Huntsville. Boaz is home to Snead State Community College, the Boaz Public Library, and the Boaz Outlet Center.

The area that is now Boaz was originally part of the Cherokee Nation. In 1836, the vast Cherokee land holdings in the Southeast were divided up into lots and sold off in a series of government-run auctions. A settler named William J. Boaz purchased the land where Boaz, Alabama is located which was known as Section 17 and the residents of the area have shared his surname ever since.

The town of Boaz was established in 1875 by the Boaz brothers, George and William J. Boaz. Boaz was incorporated as a town in 1879. The powerful Moore family was from Boaz and it was through their influence that the city became a prominent stop on the Huntsville North & Birmingham southern Railroad in the late 19th century.
