Chesterfield Township, Cayuga County, Nebraska, is a small town of about 1000 people at the time of the 2010 census. It was originally inhabited by the Omaha and Winnebago Native American tribes before the arrival of the first white settlers. The town was founded in the early 1860s by a man named Alvin Blanchard, who allegedly named it after the town of Chesterfield, New Hampshire. The first post office in the area was established in 1869. The town was originally called West Grove before being renamed Chesterfield.
