Ballarat City is a city located in the Central Highlands of Victoria, Australia. It is located approximately 105 kilometers west-northwest of Melbourne, the state capital. At the 2011 census, Ballarat City had a population of 97,455.

Ballarat is the third-largest urban area in the state. It is the home town of the famous Eureka Rebellion of 1854, when gold miners rose up against the British authorities and miners from all over the world gathered at the gold fields to dig for their future.
