Vaughan is the fifth-largest city in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. It is located north of Toronto and is part of York Region. Vaughan is the fastest-growing municipality in Canada, having nearly doubled in population between 1996 and 2006. It is the seat of the York Region government.
Vaughan was named after the first British-born Canadian-elected Member of Parliament, Benjamin Vaughan. The first settlement in Vaughan was in the 18th century, when it was home to farmers, millers and innkeepers. Later in the 19th and early 20th century, the area became an important industrial hub, providing manufacturing and services for the surrounding communities.
Today, Vaughan is known for its multicultural population and is home to an impressive variety of attractions, including Canada’s Wonderland, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the McMichael Canadian Sculpture Garden, Vaughan Mills Shopping Centre, the Polar Cubs Hockey Academy and much more.
