Saraland is a city in Mobile County, Alabama, United States, and a suburb of Mobile. As of the 2010 census, the population of the city was 13,405. Saraland is home to many factories and industrial enterprises, including International Paper Company, Rollins Environmental Services and Diamond Gulf Distributors.

Saraland was initially a small agricultural community and was historically a part of the Chickasaw Nation. The city first incorporated in 1890, but was later disincorporated in the 1920s. Saraland was reincorporated in 1949 and has grown substantially since then.

The city is governed by an elected mayor and six city council members, who serve four-year terms. The city manager is appointed by the city council. Saraland’s police and fire departments are contracted through the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and Mobile Fire-Rescue Department, respectively.

Saraland is home to numerous parks, including Reynold’s Park, Pollard Park, Saraland City Park, and Wolf Creek Public Park. The city’s educational system includes Saraland Elementary School, Saraland Middle School, and Saraland High School. The University of South Alabama is also located within the city.

5. Saraland is home to one of only two licensed cowhide drying sheds in the United States. This sheds is used for drying and tanning cowhide used in the making of saddles and other related items.

6. Saraland is home to the only Amish farmers market in the Gulf Coast. Open on Saturdays, the market features a variety of locally grown produce, including fruits, vegetables, eggs, and honey.
