what is in a california roll

A California roll typically contains sushi rice, nori (seaweed), imitation crab meat, avocado, and cucumber. Sometimes sesame seeds or tobiko (flying fish roe) are used as well. The rice is usually on the outside of the roll, and the nori is on the inside, holding the ingredients together. The roll is then typically sliced into bite-sized pieces and served with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi.
